Over the years, an increasing number of women have chosen to be cared for by a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM). Midwife means “with women,” and at The Women’s OB/GYN Group, our Certified Nurse Midwives are dedicated to helping you achieve your health and wellness goals, and work as a collaborative team with our physicians to provide the best care to pregnant women and their families.

As you begin the exciting and emotional journey of parenthood, our CNMs are here to help you through all phases, from pregnancy and delivery to breastfeeding support and newborn care.

What Do Certified Nurse Midwives Do?

Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) provide pregnancy and birth care for low-risk women, utilizing a holistic approach that supports the natural processes of pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum care. All of our CNMs have a Master's degree, are certified through the American Midwifery Certification Board and are licensed by the Maryland State Board of Nursing.

At The Women’s OB/GYN Group, our CNMs provide a comprehensive array of women’s services including:

  • Prescribing of medications, including epidural anesthesia during labor.

  • Labor management, including pain medication during labor and alternatives to pain medication for women who prefer a drug-free delivery. Our CNMs are committed to supporting you and your partner in achieving your desired birth plan.

  • Labor and delivery – Our CNMs provide birthing support during active labor and will deliver your baby. Our CNMs attend deliveries at Saint Agnes Hospital.
